Ok, ok, you might be thinking... why does this matter in business? This sounds very much like a fairy tale. If you're like me, very fact-based, this might even sound non-sense…

I thought that for quite a while and discarded the mindset of abundance techniques as totally unreal. I thought things do not materialise from thin air.

In this blog, I'll share my experience and give you concrete and simple actions to make it happen.

When you think with a mindset of abundance, you open yourself up to receiving more good things in life. Let's get started!

 

What does it mean to have a mindset of abundance?

The definition of abundance is "an abundant supply of something."

When we talk about abundance in terms of mindset, we're referring to the belief that there is plenty of good in the world and that you can have as much of it as you want.

An abundant mindset is the opposite of a scarcity mindset, which is the belief that there's not enough of something to go around.

Let's keep the definitions simple. It will all become much more apparent as you move on and see examples of how this all materialises.

Having an abundance mindset in business means believing there is plenty of opportunity and success to go around.

It's the belief that you don't have to hustle and grind 24/7 to be successful. Instead, you can focus on creating a business that you love and serve others well.

A mindset of abundance in business will make you generous, sharing your best advice for free and becoming a natural magnet for your ideal clients. Generosity always wins in business.

However, it is very natural to operate from a place of scarcity in their businesses, believing that they have to take whatever work comes their way, even if it's not what they want to be doing. This can lead to feelings of burnout and resentment.

Operating from an abundance mindset allows you to be more selective about the work you take on and ultimately creates a more sustainable and enjoyable business.

The key difference between a scarcity mindset and a mindset of abundance is how you view the world. People with a scarcity mindset see the world as a limited place where there's not enough of anything to go around. On the other hand, people with an abundance mindset see the world as a place of limitless possibilities where anything is possible.

How can you tell if you have a scarcity mindset?... Spot it as the pro’s do:

There are some telltale signs that you may have a scarcity mindset. If you say or think any of these, it's a good indication that your mindset needs some work:

  • There's not enough ____ (time, money, love, etc.) to go around.
  • I can't have/do ____ because someone else already has/is doing it.
  • I need to hustle and grind 24/7 to be successful.
  • I'll never be as _____ as so-and-so.
  • I don't deserve _____.

If you find yourself thinking any of these things regularly, it's time to start working on shifting your mindset.

Some of the benefits of having an abundance mindset include:

  1. More happiness and fulfilment, as you aren't constantly looking at the mirror with eyes of failure or impossibility.

  2. You appreciate the present and believe in the future!

  3. A more extraordinary ability to see and pursue opportunities

  4. Increased success

  5. Improved relationships, both personal and in your biz

  6. Greater creativity, as you don't constrain yourself to the norm or what is more likely a safe bet

  7. You'll feel less stress and, yes, that has a whole range of benefits for your body and mind!

 

How does a mindset of abundance work in the law of attraction

The law of attraction is the belief that like attracts like. Let’s look at it in a simple way.

So, if you're focused on positive things, you will attract more positive things into your life.

This is how the mindset of abundance works concerning the law of attraction. You attract more abundance into your life when you have a mindset of abundance.

Just think about a straightforward example. When you give, you are more likely to receive. Listen and you’ll be more likely to be listened.

This is probably the most crucial question: how do you train for a mindset of abundance?

Exactly! It is something that you work on regularly to develop new habits.

1. Acknowledge your mindset... especially if you have a scarcity mindset

The first step is to become aware of your current mindset.

  • What messages are you telling yourself daily?

  • Are they messages of scarcity or abundance?

The first step to changing your mindset, especially if you have a scarcity mindset, is acknowledging that you have one in the first place. Once you're aware of your thoughts and patterns, you can start to change them.

 

2. Question your beliefs

Once you've become aware of your mindset, it's time to start questioning your beliefs.

  • Why do you believe what you believe?

  • Where did these beliefs come from?

Going deep into your mindset and questioning your beliefs is the best way to start changing them. Obviously it isn’t about changing everything. You have very important core beliefs that make you who you are.

This isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about helping you see the world of opportunities around you to go after them with belief.

 

Take action

Use the 5 why's method:

  • Once you identify a belief, ask yourself why you believe that.
  • Once you've answered it, ask yourself why you believe the answer you gave.
  • And once again, keep asking yourself why each time you answer until you have answered 5 levels of "why".

Companies use this method to identify the root cause of problems, but you can also use it for mindset beliefs!

The deeper you dig into your reasons, the more you’ll be able to change those limiting beliefs anchored deep inside you. In many occasions they can come all the way from our childhood, from experiences that stayed unconsciously with you all these years.

3. Next is all about alignment, self-alignment

You might have come across the concept of alignment before or not, but let's assume you have not.

It starts with the love for yourself (who you are and what you do) and aligning with your core values.

Because of your environment, expectations from the world we live in and have grown up in, your preconceptions of success, past experiences and society's pre-established success journey, what you have been trying to do, achieve or be that isn't at all your true self.

Working on alignment is an inner journey into your true self:

  • what you stand for, what you want out of life,

  • what are the things that genuinely make you happy, happy in the long run, not as a one-off, short-lived excitement,

  • what mark you want to leave behind,

  • what feels right,

  • what, deep down, is what you really, really, want to be known for.

Sometimes you’ve convinced yourselves over the years that you want to achieve something that in fact, in the end, is meaningless for you. Sometimes finding the answers to these points take time and will need to strip out layers of pre-defined answers.

Pursuing your true self is an ongoing journey, and as you start finding your answers, you'll be setting solid foundations to develop a mindset of abundance.

From this foundation of self-love and alignment, everything else flows.

 

Take action

  1. Write down things you feel proud of, what you’re good at, not just about work, and things that people have thanked you for. They can be small things of every day.
  2. Now look back and find those moments of genuine, profound happiness.
    • Why did you feel that way?
    • You may be thinking... I haven't had any of those. That's fine.
    • That's part of changing to a mindset of abundance.
  3. So think into the future. Close your eyes, imagine you are in a world where you have everything you need to make things happen.
    • What do you see?
    • What is that happy place in your imagination?
    • What are you doing?
    • Project yourself in limitless happiness and write down what you're imagining and why.
    • It is the why that matters more than the what.
    • The why you feel happy will help you identify what aspects of your life are essential to feeling aligned tot yourself.

And remember, this isn't the time to think about all you don’t know, haven’t achieved yet or haven't got.

For example, you can find that you feel aligned with yourself when you are helping others achieve success, living a life where you can be with your ones when they need you and live a life where you are present, living the today and not pursuing a never coming, ephemeral, future happiness.

Or for example, you can find that you feel aligned working with others (not alone), being creative and letting your creativity flow, and implementing projects that feel challenging and keep you on a learning curve of self-improvement. Or that you feel aligned by expressing your opinions and not playing a futile political game just to please people's egos and personal agendas.

There is no right or wrong. It isn’t about what make others feel aligned, it’s about what makes you happy, truly, deeply.

 
 
 

4. Be present

The past is gone, and the future isn't here yet, so live in the present moment. Enjoy the here and now and make the most of it!

This is easier said than done, but it's a mindset you can train yourself to have. The more you practice being present, the easier it will become.

Here are some tips on how to be more present:

  • Don't dwell on the past: Let go of any negativity from your past and focus on the present moment.

  • Don't worry about the future: Stop worrying about what might happen and focus on what's happening right now.

  • Be mindful of your thoughts: Listen to your thoughts and choose to focus on positive, happy thoughts.

  • Be in the moment: Enjoy the here and now and make the most of it!

 
 
 

5. Think big for the future: understand your higher purpose

Now that you understand those elements that are core to your true self, it's time to define your higher purpose.

Careful! Goals are concrete things you want to achieve within a certain timeframe. Your higher purpose isn’t your goals.

For example:

  • One of your goals could be to get 200 email subscribers in 3 months, or 1000 Pinterest followers by the end of the year or $1000/monthly from your side business in 6 months.

  • In contrast, your purpose could be:

    • to help mompreneurs make money online and have more family time,

    • or to help others discover nature to build a love and respect for the environment,

    • or sharing your knowledge, views, and experience on a certain subject to help others achieve their dreams.

 

Take action

  • Write down your mission, your why.
  • Repeat your mission aloud and write about it daily in your videos, your landing pages, your blogs, your website, your bio, interviews, podcasts, webinar intros...

It’s more important to be able to articulate with ease your purpose than explaining what you do as a job. One is the what, the other is the why.

The why, your purpose, is what will keep you going and the one that will be core to building your mindset of abundance.

 
 
 

6. Get clear on your goals to pursue your purpose

Take action towards your goals.

Once you've started to change your mindset, it's time to take action towards your goals. If you want to achieve something, you must start taking steps towards it! When you're clear about what you want, it's easier to take the steps needed to get there.

 

Take action

  • Write down your goals and visualise them often. The more specific you can be, the better.
 
 
 

7. Behave like your future self and visualise abundance

Start visualising what an abundant life looks like for you.

  • What does it feel like?

  • What does it look like?

  • How does it smell?

  • Why?

Our brain gets programmed by what it sees, hears and experiences. So the more it gets fed the right stimulus, the more it normalises it, and behaves that way. That's just science.

This is the core of a mindset of abundance versus a scarcity mindset.

And that's precisely by visualisation of your dreams, your goals, and your mission helps make it part of your day-to-day thinking and behaviour.

 

Take action

  • Create a vision board with your dreams.
    • You can do this digitally and add it as a screen saver.
    • You can have it on paper, or you can create easily a super inspiring one on Pinterest.
    • Make sure that you can see your vision board daily easily.
  • Write down your goals.
  • Behave as your future self. Once you start doing what your successful future self would do, things will happen as you will concentrate on the right priorities.

Now, I’m not someone who believes that it will happen because you have a vision board. That isn't the point of a vision board.

The magic of a vision board is it keeps you focused on the bigger picture. And that is essential. It keeps you positive and out of mundane to-do-list that get you nowhere. It reinforces a strong mindset of abundance.

 

8. Drive actions that align with your purpose, with who you are

While visualisation techniques of the future are great for making your brain wired into that future reality, it is also essential in a mindset of abundance to enjoy the present.

When you live in the present versus only a future dream, you increase your happiness levels and manage your energy through daily positive vibes. That reinforces your energy to keep on aiming for your dreams.

 

Take action

  • Start your day defining 3 priorities for the day and ensure they align with your mission.
  • Write down at the end of the day 3 things you’ve achieved on the day (build a feeling of progress).
  • At the end of the week, write down a priority you have completed (create a feeling of achievement).
  • Take the time to reflect during the day and enjoy the process. Build time to reflect and listen to your inner voice.

Once you work on your alignment regularly, you’ll feel your inner self being in a place of happiness and contentment in the present.

Without that, you can’t work on the next steps.

Anchor yourself in a place of love for who you are and what you’re here for.

Then that will stop you from criticising your present and developing scarcity beliefs. Escapism isn't the answer to a mindset of abundance.

9. Be open to change

If you want to change your mindset, you must be open to change. This means letting go of old beliefs and embracing new ones.

It can be scary to let go of what you know, but creating a mindset of abundance is essential.

 

Take action

  • Make a list of your beliefs about money, success, and happiness.
  • Then, for each belief, ask yourself if it's helping or hurting you. If it's not helping, it's time to let it go.

Change is always difficult and can bring a range of fears.

10. Believe in yourself. Read affirmations daily

One of the most important steps you can do is to believe in yourself.

Believe that you are capable and worthy of achieving your goals.

A huge root cause for a scarcity mindset is the lack of confidence in your abilities. As a mental defence mechanism, your mind starts looking around you to justify all the things that aren't right and are stopping you from succeeding.

It's a biased perception of the world and your environment. They're unconscious auto-justification thoughts.

 

Take action

  • Reinforce all you are capable of. Write it down. Say it aloud.
  • Look back and admire how much you have progressed and learned.
  • Share your achievements with others.

It can really help re-programme your brain if you read positive, inspiring affirmations daily.

11. Connect with yourself, practise self-love and avoid the comparison games

Yes, we all do it! Comparing ourselves to others.

That's why you have heroes. That's why you follow people. That's why you idolise certain public figures.

Be mindful of the comparison game to build a strong mindset of abundance! It's fab to aim to achieve what others have and use them as a model, or even better, to surpass them. However, that needs to come without negative comparison thoughts.

It's easier done than you may think!

Don't compare yourself to others. Comparison is the end of joy, so don't do it!

Everyone is on their own journey, so focus on your own path and where you want to go.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to practice self-love. Accept yourself for who you are, the stage of the journey you are in and love yourself unconditionally.

 

Take action

  • When you catch yourself having limiting thoughts about all you haven't achieved and others have... stop and remember that everyone starts from zero.
  • They were also where you are now.
  • They might be ahead of your journey... it doesn't mean that you are less or you won't get there and beyond!
 

12. Let go of perfectionism & don't be afraid to fail

Perfectionism is another form of comparison, and it's just as harmful. Let go of the need to be perfect and embrace your imperfections!

Failure is life, so don't be afraid of it. It's the only way you'll grow and become better!

Embrace failure and learn from it.

 

Take action

  1. Make a list of the things you're afraid to fail at.
  2. Then, for each one, ask yourself what's the worst that could happen if you did fail. Chances are, it isn't as bad as you think!
 

13. Help others, give generously

Having a mindset of abundance is also based on your willingness and enjoyment in giving. When you help others, it not only makes them feel good, but it also makes you feel good. It's a great method to shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance!

When you give generously, it opens up the door for more to come into your life. Whether you're giving your time, energy, or resources, be generous with what you have!

Giving is a generous gesture that will help you open up opportunities.

The best way of giving is not to require or expect something in return. The most gratifying of it all is that people will love you for it. They become super fans.

Never underestimate the power of those who will only consume your free content. They can become those who talk about you to others. The most powerful of all marketing!

Start practising gratitude daily. Be thankful for what you have, even if it's just the little things.

Develop deep gratitude for what you have... instead of thinking about what you haven't.

 

Take action

  • Take 5 minutes each day to express gratitude for what you have, what you are, and what you receive.
  • Be explicit with others about how much you appreciate what they bring to your life and your biz.

In biz, the word " thank you" is the most underrated one and often the least used. It's, however, one of the most powerful ones! It will help open your eyes to the world of abundance around you and will build a more robust and strong mindset of abundance for you! Use it more every day.

 

15. From today’s strengths to future strengths

Build on your strengths every day.

A mindset of abundance doesn't mean that you have to believe you're perfect and don't need personal development.

A mindset of abundance appreciates your strengths and works positively to build new skills to achieve your dreams.

Your experience or skill gaps are learning opportunities for personal growth, not limiting factors.

 

Take action

  1. Watch your language when referring to your competencies and experience.
    • Use positive sentences.
  2. Celebrate all your skills and how much you can achieve with them.
    • Look back six months and acknowledge all the things you can do now that you weren’t able six months ago.
  3. Continue your continuous personal development journey.
    • Challenge yourself to infinite growth by learning new daily skills to become an even better version of yourself.
    • Personal development is an enjoyable, never-ending journey.
  4. Write down one new skill that you will learn in the next month.

16. Be mindful of your environment and positive network

You may have, as I have, read many times, “surround yourself with positive people to develop a mindset of abundance.”

While this is good advice in a perfect world, I believe that life is far more complex than this!

You can't pretend to force everyone in our life into a mould of a mindset of abundance. You’re surrounded by people you love, teams, family, friends... some are more positive than others. You shouldn't push out of our lives important people to us because they happen to have a scarcity mindset.

It isn't just realistic.

So here is a balanced approach which I believe is far more achievable:

 

Take action

  • Be active in maintaining a positive support network around you.
    • This can be other online entrepreneurs, a coach, a membership with supporting members, and close friends who will support you, believe in you and listen to you.
  • It’s life if some of the people closest to us aren’t that supportive or have a scarcity mindset.
    • Don’t take them out. That isn’t the answer.
    • Take the time to breathe out any negative thoughts that might have impacted you.
    • Keep open-minded. Remember, we seek support from others because we lack inner love.
    • The more deeply aligned you are with yourself, the less you will feel affected by empty negative comments.
  • Learn to distinguish between loving and caring feedback from people close to you who want to help you better yourself, and nasty, empty criticism.

On that last point, let me share an example.

I used to be petrified of fear by showing up on video not that long ago. Since then, I have worked on my mindset of abundance to see opportunities and develop new skills. So yeah, I show up on video now.

It is, however an ongoing learning journey.

As such, my husband and son are keen to help me improve. So they share what isn't yet natural enough about my videos.

There used to be a time when my fears and scarcity mindset made me cry at their feedback. I was insecure and felt that their kind inputs were unhelpful. Now, I welcome them. Why? Because I see it with a mindset of abundance. There is plenty of opportunities and plenty of learning opportunity that I want to take advantage of.

It takes time to reach that point.

Believe me, once you start seeing the world and the biz around you with a mindset of abundance, you don't feel exposed. You see new doors into beautiful new places you want to explore.

 
 
 

17. Read inspiring stories

Reading stories of people who have overcome adversity can be incredibly inspiring.

It will show you that anything is possible if you just believe in yourself!

 

18. Constantly work at it: Catch up your limiting beliefs

Now, not every day you’ll feel a mindset of abundance. That's just life again for you!

I went on for years, pushing back on the concept of a mindset of abundance.

Why? Because much of what is written about it gives the impression that you just need to think about it and it will happen, plus it is this ideal world where everything is so perfect and achievable.

Some days won't feel like that at all. Be kind to yourself when those days happen. Don’t over-justify yourself.

Accept difficult days.

 

Take action

  1. Between activity and activity, recharge for at least 5 minutes. As Buchard Brandon says, manage your energy!
  2. At the end of a challenging day, take the time to disconnect. Reflect on how much you’ve grown with that learning experience the next day.
  3. If the scarcity mindset is starting to take over your thoughts, write down your perceived barriers and challenge yourself… Are they real show stoppers?
  4. Anticipate change and prepare for the unexpected.
  5. Be open to new experiences.

As with most things in life, don’t think there is a finish line to achieve a mindset of abundance. Some days are better than others! It is an ongoing learning activity.

 

Take action

  1. Work at it every day. That’s why journaling is so helpful.
  2. If you aren’t a journaling person (I’m not, haha!), take the take to meditate and reflect on things. Decide how you will do things differently to avoid getting the same outcome.
  3. And don't forget to find opportunities to recharge!
 

19. Be patient and give yourself time

Change takes time!

Be patient with yourself. It won't happen overnight, but if you keep at it, you will start to see a difference.

Changing your mindset is a process, so give yourself time to do it. It won't happen overnight, but if you're patient, it will happen.

 

20. Learn to be resilient and persistent

Things happen. Things that you don't anticipate. Things that upset you. Things that make you doubt. Things that push you backwards.

Don't take those things as signs that you should stop or aren't good enough. It's part of the cycle of life. Ups and downs.

You learn to be persistent in your efforts. Don't give up if you don't see results right away!
